Al Holbert, the great IMSA champion, Le Mans winner, and heart of Porsche’s North American motorsports program, died 30 years ago on Sept. 30, 1988, in a plane crash leaving the Columbus street race. Holbert, one of my two biggest racing heroes, is remembered in conversations with his son Todd, legendary teammate Derek Bell, and colleague Alwin Springer from ANDIAL during the Rennsport Reunion VI at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
